For those of you who are unfamiliar with the world of
Graffiti, there are two kinds of
graffiti writers / artists; the lone-wolf and those who are part of a "
crew".
1Up is a
crew out of
Berlin. In spite of the likelihood that you have never heard of them, the crew come with many labels, such as
Germany's greatest, Europe's greatest, The World's Most Famous Graf Crew, and the like. There are other labels like, "
Notorious" - and for well-earned reasons.
Some of you may have noticed 1Up's giant tag from the Sky Train (between Siam and Rachathawi stations). We noted another such tag on Sukhumvit Road, however that area has since been demolished - unfortunately before we could get down to photograph it.

The
1Up crew members remain anonymous - after many years of 'bombing' the streets of
Berlin and elsewhere. Some of their less-than popular outings (at least with the local
gendarmerie) have included 'painting' an
entire train in broad daylight, while filming the entire proceedings (and then putting it up on
YouTube). However, this time around, they have done something entirely legal - they have made a movie.
The film's title : “
1UP Berlin – One United Power” is not currently in theaters (although the premiere was). It is, however currently available on
DVD - (
4 hours of graffiti sampled from the past eight years, including various writing actions, street-pieces, roof-top rollers, and reactions from the public, both pro - and - con.). The film is, unsurprisingly, in
German, and is available in various subtitles (
Russian, English, Arabian, etc. ). The first
DVD is shot in their home town,
Berlin, and the second features their works in
Thailand (
Yes!) ,
Romania, Brazil, Austria, France and
Cuba.
