Reviewed 10 Jan 03      Is it just me, or are there others out there that thought 8 1/2 was slightly self-indulgent, slightly artsy-phartsy?   I saw this film almost 40 years ago in Australia, and I thought the same things then.  Nevertheless, it has withstood the test of time, and one should give credit where it is due.  Still highly rated by this reviewer, you will forgive me if I haven't swooned, and if I have not given it a perfect five stars, as would all those around me.  Below is the synopsis by the good folks that brought you this "Bangkok International Film Festival".  They can be found on : http://www.bkkinterfilm.com.
"One of the greatest films about movies ever made.  It turns one man’s artistic crisis into a grand epic of the cinema.  Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni) is a director whose film -and life- is collapsing around him.  An early working title for the film was The Beautiful Confusion , and Fellini’s masterpiece is exactly that: a shimmering dream, a circus, and a magic act.  It remains one of the most written about, talked about, and imitated movies of all time."
Director: Federico Fellini
Producer: Angelo Rizzoli
Screenwriter: Federico Fellini, Ennio Flaiano, Tullio Pinelli, Brunello Rondi"
See it while it is still in Krung Thep.
