BANGKOK EYES
Let the November 2018 Follies begin-
PATPONG 1
As unlikely as it may seem, a new bar, the
Pussycat, has opened softly on
PP1. We happened by on their opening night, so all the prep was not yet completed. They envision
A Go-Go dancing in the near future -a wait-and-see item. Welcome them to
Darwin's trials of attrition...
PATPONG 1
The recently reopened
Super Pussy has closed down again. -Only to be replaced by the
Pussy Magic that closed down a month ago just across the street. These
pay-for-show bars continue with their
Wac-A-Mole musical chairs - they get closed down at one location, they pop up across the street.... They do nothing to enhance the
Night Entertainment reputation of the
Patpongs.
PATPONG 1
The live music is '
back on' at the
Twilo. We wish them constancy.
PATPONG 1
The
De Talk 2 was a bit of an odd-ball hole-in-the-wall
Venue from the start. So when that 'final curtain', the cold steel roller-shutter, came down, no one was surprised (they just weren't
big enough to do any business). What is surprising is that it lasted just over
2 years. The original
De Talk on
PP2 is still going strong.
PATPONG 1
PATPONG 2
Now more than a rumor, more than a painted sign, we will be filling in the details on the
Club Black in the near future. In the meantime, the
3rd floor
Black Pagoda continues to romp...
PATPONG 2
The
Tokyo Boy (file photo below) has either torn down its sign, or had it torn down, and the
Tavern Three Saloon sign has been hastily tacked back up. This recent upsurge of
new single-shophouse gay-boy bars on the ground level under
The Ramp seems to be having a hard time legitimizing the names of their bars. Official, legal name changes too expensive, perhaps? They, too, have been playing musical-chairs along that strip, and it doesn't look like the end is in sight. The only thing that hasn't changed is they remain gay bars...
PATPONG 2
The
Unnamed Bar that was
Tokyo Boy a couple months ago appears to be open, but currently has no signage. It appears to be a
katoey bar. More on this next time 'round.
PATPONG 2
SOI COWBOY
Two months ago we noted that the
Penny Black was closed for renovations. They have now reopened (and have been open for almost a month - we just missed the reopening on our last-month's survey). Looking good. Welcome them back to the machine.
SOI COWBOY
NANA PLAZA
The shock closure this month was that of the popular
Bangkok Bunnies. The premises were quickly reoccupied by
Twister Bkk. (The
Twister Bkk is said by those on the ground to be related to the
2nd level
Twister Bar - not an entirely illogical conclusion...) Same sharkpool, different day...
NANA PLAZA
The
3rd level
Charades is closed down and hammers and saws are a-flying. Rumor from those denizens on premises is that when it reopens, it will no longer be a
katoey bar - real ladies only. We also hear a name-change is in the offing.... Definitely wait-and-see items....
NANA PLAZA
The ground-level
Short Time has taken down its signage and is undergoing minor renovations. They appear to be continuing to serve customers (
?) .. So it remains a toss-up as to whether, or not, we will see a brand-new bar this time next month. We'll update next time 'round...
NANA PLAZA
SOI NANA
The long-in-service
Bangcockney Bar (actually on
Soi 6 as it joins
Soi Nana) has stuffed its last chit in the last cup and boarded up the premises. We hope this is just a temporary condition - should there be any change, we'll pick it up on the rebound and get back atcha.
SOI NANA
SOI KATOEY
Only shadows danced in the doorway of the tiny
Sugarbowl Bar & Restaurant as we passed by the other evening. It appears the interior is being renovated & removed. They were very thoughtful, though - they put out a sign for their delivery person not to deliver any ice....(?) Wishing them greener grass....
SOI KATOEY
Hugs Bar-Karaoke, like their many predecessors at that location, are starting to open and close on whatever whim takes them. (This month they are closed again.) A bad sign, historically speaking....
SOI KATOEY
SOI 22
It is refreshing to see a brand-new
Nitespot open. In this case, it is the
Second Base, and it is located just across the main drag from the
Queen's Park Plaza. Welcome them to the bright lights, big city....
SOI 22
What was the
Pussapa Massage up until
2 months ago is now the
Nice Massage 2 (the original
Nice Massage is just next door). May they continue to slip and slide.
SOI 22
Last month we noted the impending opening of
Healing In Thai Massage. Well, it happened. A very well appointed spa located just inside
Subsoi Titanium on
Soi 22. Welcome them to the neon nights...

SOI AMBASSADOR
The
Vagabond bar beer started out as a street bar on
Sukhumvit Road a couple of years ago. More recently, one year, to be exact, they moved into more permanent digs at the back of
Subsoi Havana Social, and nailed up some very professional neon. Yesterday we stopped by to have a drink, and found they were in the wind. I asked the lady in charge at the bar beer that replaced
Vagabond, and she said, "Finish contract". We hope the
Vagabond crew took that neon sign and put it to good use... (BTW, the new bar beer will be called '
Ice Bar' once they get the signage crafted and nailed up.)
SOI AMBASSADOR (Sukhumvit Soi 11)
The
Old German Beer House is gone, but not gone. They are closed down for major renovations (see photo), however they have opened up either temporarily, or as a permanent branch on
Soi 13. The plan, as it stands today, is to relocate back in to the original digs once the renovations are complete. May they persevere.
SOI AMBASSADOR (Sukhumvit Soi 11)
The
Happy Station 11 Bar Beer at the top of
Soi Ambassador (in the motorcycle soi called
Soi 11/2) has reopened. In that they open and close so frequently, we will not be posting the same old file photo....
SOI AMBASSADOR (Sukhumvit Soi 11)
QUEEN's PARK PLAZA
The
Simple Bar has closed down - we think - and has been replaced by
Friendly Bar. The problem is, two doors down one finds the
Friendly Bar, same name, same sign. Just across the footpath from the
Simple Bar/Friendly Bar is the
Simple Bar 1, right where it has long been... Don't ask us, we only work here...
QUEEN's PARK PLAZA (Sukhumvit 22)
We would certainly be remiss if we didn't have at least something up for
Halloween. This ghostly apparition was the most colorful of the lot this year - thanks to the fun-loving gang at the
5 Star Bar.

SOI DEAD ARTISTS
A quick look down
Soi Pan Pan reveals a
Japanese enclave of (mostly) massage parlors. A photo for the archives.
SOI DEAD ARTISTS (Sukhumvit 33)
SOI EDEN
The
Smile Hair Cut has undergone a name-change - they became the
Dalah Massage. They gave up the charade - it was never about cutting hair - the massage parlor was upstairs and to the right. Specialty massage remains the order of the day - and night. Welcome them to the long uphill.
